Wondering what happens after you contact us about a new sign? From your initial consultation through design, permitting, fabrication, and installation, our team manages every step of the process. This guide walks you through each phase so you’ll know exactly what to expect along the way.
The Commercial Sign Process
Regardless of what kind of sign you need, every project starts the same way: a conversation. Before exploring materials, colors, or dimensions, we take the time to understand your goals. Are you helping visitors navigate your space? Increasing visibility from the street? Strengthening your brand presence? Your objectives help us recommend the right signage solution tailored to your needs and environment.
From there, the process typically follows one of two paths: interior signage or exterior signage. While many of the steps are similar, exterior signs often require additional approvals, permitting, or inspections that can affect project timelines. The flowcharts below outline each process so you can better understand what to expect at every stage of your project.
Interior Signs

Location
Every successful sign starts with understanding the space where it will be installed. For interior signage, we begin by reviewing the installation area— through photos, measurements, an on-site survey, or a combination of all three. This allows us to make informed recommendations regarding size, materials, placement, and visibility before moving forward with the project.
Estimating and Design
Once we understand your space and project goals, we estimate appropriate materials, fabrication methods, and sizing options. This gives you a basic understanding of the project’s scope, costs, and timeline before making a commitment.
After estimate approval and receipt of your deposit, our design team begins creating your proof. Whether you’re providing finished artwork, an existing logo, or just an idea, we’ll prepare a design that reflects your vision and is ready for production.
You have the opportunity to review the proof and request revisions before providing final approval. Nothing moves into production until you’re completely satisfied with the design.
Fabrication and Installation
Once your proof is approved, your project moves into production. Our fabrication team manufactures your sign according to the approved specifications and materials.
After fabrication is complete, we coordinate installation and schedule a time that works for your team. From there, your signage is installed and ready to be seen.
Exterior Signs

Building Requirements
Exterior sign projects begin with reviewing your building’s sign criteria. These requirements are typically set by landlords, property managers, and local municipalities, and they define what is allowed for your location.
We gather and review these guidelines with you upfront so there are no surprises later in the process. This step ensures your design is aligned with both the property standards and city regulations from the very beginning.
Estimating and Design
Once building and city requirements are confirmed, we move into design and estimating. Our team develops a concept that reflects your brand while also accounting for real-world factors such as weather exposure, visibility, structural considerations, and electrical access for illuminated signage when applicable.
With those details defined, we prepare a detailed estimate for your approval. After approval and deposit, we create your design proof for review. This gives you a clear visual representation of your sign before production begins. We refine the design together as needed until everything is approved.
Permitting, Fabrication, and Installation
Exterior signs require additional steps before fabrication can begin. Once your proof is approved, we prepare a complete sign package and permit application for submission, including drawings, specifications, and any required documentation for your landlord and the city. After you and your landlord review and approve the package, we submit it to the city for review. Once approved, fabrication begins.
After installation, a city inspection closes out the permit. We coordinate this step on your behalf to ensure everything is completed properly and the project is fully finalized.
