Experience is the Teacher

The Ocean Institute approached Starfish Signs and Graphics to partner with them to design, print and install a really exciting wrap for their new ‘Ocean in Motion’ van. The goal described to us was to convey ‘the excitement and wonder of the ocean’.

At Starfish Signs, we have a very strong focus on sustainability, so we were really excited to be work with the Ocean Institute on this project.
The Ocean Institute is nationally known for its hands-on marine science, environmental education and maritime history programs. The “Ocean in Motion” van is a mobile laboratory for outreach to special needs and underserved students. The staff calls it a “tide pool on wheels”. The Ocean Institute received a grant to purchase a new van to address the overwhelming demand for the program.

Materials for the project were generously donated by 3M. We used their Envision wrap material – a new graphic media that offers leading edge technology, best-in-class performance, and an advantage in sustainability. Specifically, the The Envision wrap film: 1. Is non-PVC and phthalate-free; 2. Contains no added chlorine or halogen; 3. Is made in part from bio-based materials; 4. Is manufactured using 60% less solvents.

As shown in the embedded video, the resultant graphics are outstanding, and really help to visually convey the Ocean Institute’s ‘Ocean in Motion’ mission and goals.

At Starfish Signs and Graphics, we consider sustainability and the environment in many other ways – from the use of water-based latex inks, to the use of recyclable media. Let us help you with any projects requiring a Green emphasis – for example indoor graphics used in sensitive environments. We will work with you to find the right combination of benefits – performance, price and sustainability. Call us now to learn how we can deliver green benefits to your graphics project.
